An iMac door stop

You know how sometimes things play on your mind. Like wanting to get a new car. Buying the latest TV. How about that stunning piece of jewellery in the Jewellers you walk past every day in the street. As a wedding photographer, there is always a list of things you 'want'. For me, making the move from a Windows computer across to a Mac has been high on my list for such a long time, especially after having walked past the Apple store here in Leamington Spa so many times. But for some reason I kept delaying. Why?

A few reasons really. In my mind I was worried that making the switch was going to be one hell of a challenge. All of my life I'd been using Windows, and to be honest, not always that successfully either. Another reason, as I'm sure many people can relate to, was the cost. Comparing prices between Macs and non-Macs always ended with frustration. But two things kept niggling away at me. Firstly all of my fellow photographer friends have either an iMac or a Macbook Pro, some have both. And they all swear by them.

Secondly, opposite my favourite coffee bar in Leamington Spa called Angelino is an Apple store. After enjoying a coffee, the amount of times I would drift into the store looking at stunning shiny beautiful Apple kit, was ridiculous. It got to the point at the weekend when I made that monumental decision, and said to myself 'Sod it, I'm going to dust off my credit card and buy one'. You wouldn't believe the relief I felt after the decision. So off I waddled into town with credit card in hand. But then I wobbled just before walking into the store. A swift phone call to my wife was made, begging for support. We met for a coffee, had a chat, and then fuelled by cafeine I marched into the shop and made the purchase. But then something strange happened. I placed the iMac, un-opened in its box, on the floor against our lounge door. For some reason I couldn't bring myself to open the box, I had more important wedding work to attend to. That was Sunday. Yesterday (Monday) afternoon my wife Harriet phoned me from her office and asked me how I was getting on with my new toy. I fessed up said I hadn't brought myself to booting it up yet. 'Why ever not' she said. So with that I made the move.

Tell you what, it's bloomin amazing. I'm rubbish at talking techy, so I won't try and wax lyrical about the advantages. Let's just say I can't believe the ease of use with the internet. It's soo speedy. Plus I've just installed Lightroom 4, my preferred post-processing software, and it's faster than Usain Bolt on a fast day. Why did I ever think it was all going to be a pain to make the switch? I can't wait to continue learning more of its possiblities.
