Wedding rings

Both as a guest and as a wedding photographer, I've attended many weddings over the years. But they have all felt completely different. Why is that?Is it because each Bride and Groom are unique? Is it that we all deal with our emotions differently? Each church, registry office or other venue has something different to offer. And each wedding will have its own personal twist to it. So as a wedding photographer I'll try and capture many of these aspects. Let me give you an example.

Last year I covered Milly and Richard's wedding up in The Lake District. Why did they choose The Lake District as their location? Milly and Richard have a love of hill walking and they first met whilst on a walking trip. They have shared many amazing experiences and have funny stories to tell, including taking wrong routes, missing the last bus link back to base, and staying way too late in a pub as compensation. As you can tell, hill walking is very important to them, and it was what brought them together in the first place. So it was no surprise to their friends and family about their theme for their big day.

Reflection in Ullswater

Most couples personalise their wedding cakes, so it's great to have a record of that, especially because the cake doesn't stay in its pristine condition for long after the wedding breakfast !?! Capturing Milly and Richard's rings took some planning. I was able to obtain an Arthur Wainwright route-finding book of the local area, and bingo, job done. It was decided that Milly would wear her walking boots during the Bride and Groom formal (but relaxing) photo shoot. Plus, I then had a trick up my sleeve that I hadn't told Milly and Richard. Their venue  was on the shore of Ullswater (one of the huge lakes in The Lakes!). So I decided to take off my shoes and socks, roll up my trouser legs and tentatively wade into the (very chilly) lake to get an unusual reflection. Sure, my feet got wet and cold, but fortunately nothing else did!?! I was mightily relieved that it all went according to plan. It so easily could've ended up as another comedy moment for Milly and Richard to talk about during this latest Lake District visit.

All simple stuff really. Just as the Bride and Groom plan meticulously in advance leading up to their big day, it's exactly the same for wedding photographers as well. I can't wait to experience more themes again this wedding season. Have you decided on yours yet?
