In the past, during quiet wedding periods, I've published blog posts titled 'Image of the Week'. This is where I've selected a photograph from a wedding that I've shot previously, and explained the background behind the image and why I like it. Basically, I hope it gives you more of an idea of what goes on in the brain of a Warwickshire Wedding Photographer. However, it is time to up the ante, and change this idea into an 'Image of the Day'. So for the next two weeks, there will be a new image every weekday for you to delve into.

Background - Today I wanted to start with an image taken during the Bridal preparations from Sally and Roger's wedding. Their wedding took place at the Peak Edge Hotel in Derbyshire. This was a wedding where everything stayed within the grounds of the wedding venue, except for some Bride and Groom formal photos. This meant that the wedding party and the guests could all get ready at the venue, and then just toddle off to the wedding service that was within the same building.

Sally--Roger-2

So why do I like this image? I love how Sally, the Bride, has her reflection framed on the wall whilst she is having her hair coiffed. Reflections can really add an impact to a image, and I believe this is the case here. Another reason why I love this image is that it shows one of her Bridemaids smiling away. It is also nice to have emotions being show in images as well. What makes this more important though, is that the Bridesmaid was soon about to return back to Australia to live, it was one of her last few days in the UK. So having plenty of images for Sally of her Bridesmaid was very important.

The room where the Bridal prep takes place can be very busy, with people drifting in and out, with plenty of debris lying around due to the nature of the preparations. However I think this image is nice and clean, and avoids any distractions.

Technical Details:

Camera - Canon EOS 5D Mark III

Lens - Canon 24-70mm f2.8 L USM at 52mm

Aperture - f2.8

Shutter - 1/125 sec

ISO - 1600

Exposure Bias - +1 EV

Flash - Did not fire

This image was post processed in Adobe Lightroom v5, using my preferred method of subtle adjustments to levels and curves, and colour saturation. I applied slight noise reduction due to the high ISO being used because the image was taken in a dark part of the room.
