It seems as though the whole world has been taking 'selfies' the last few years. Before writing this post I wanted to check the exact definition, and the Oxford Dictionary quotes "A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website". They are often taken with other people included, and located pretty much anywhere including coffee houses, clubs, on an exotic holiday, or even in front of a mirror. How about experiencing selfies at weddings? There is a first for everything, and for me it was at The Wordsworth Hotel in The Lake District last summer.Background - Eve and Dan are one of those cool couples that are relaxed all the way through the wedding day, which had an infectious affect on the rest of the guests. Even a downpour at the end of their outdoor ceremony didn't seem to matter, if anything it added to the day. This image of a selfie in progress, of Eve and two of her bridesmaids, was taken only a few minutes after the end of the ceremony.

Eve--Dan-2

So why do I like this image? A few reasons, one being similar to a blogpost I wrote a few weeks ago, it shows and freezes wonderful emotion. In this image you can see Eve and one of her bridesmaids having fun. However, if you look closely, all is not well at the bottom of the image. The bridesmaid to our left has just knocked Eve's hand which is holding a glass of champagne, that results in some spillage. And of course a priceless emotion on realisation. Please don't panic everybody, the day wasn't ruined. In fact you should've heard them all just moments later shrieking loudly with fits of laughter.Technical Details:Camera - Canon EOS 5D Mk IILens - EF 24-70 f2.8L USMAperture - f4.0Shutter - 1/200 secondISO - 2,000Exposure Bias - +2/3 EVThis image was processed using Adobe Lightroom subtle adjustments to levels and curves, and slight colour saturation. If you enjoyed this article in the 'Image of the Week' series, you might like see last week's by clicking on this link.
